Many of us are partial to a glass of red wine to help us wind down after a long day and now, it seems there’s a hidden benefit to our mid-week tipple.
New research has shown that one glass of red wine could boost exercise training and performance.
Sound too good to be true? Here’s the science bit…
Red wine, as well as fruit and nuts, contains resveratrol and The University of Alberta has discovered that this compound can improve physical performance, heart function and muscle strength.
“We were excited when we saw that resveratrol showed results similar to what you would see from extensive endurance exercise training. We immediately saw the potential for this and thought that we identified ‘improved exercise performance in a pill’,” said principal investigator Jason Dyck.
That glass of Merlot never tasted so good…
