A Ballina born author has gotten a raving endorsement from the New York Times, who included his book The Nine Lives of Pakistan on a recommended reading list for next month.

Compiling a roundup of ’16 books to watch this November’, Irish author Declan Walsh was included on the prestigious list with his book The Nine Lives of Pakistan even ranking within the top 10 at number seven.

Amongst very good company, other books on the formidable list include A Promised Landy by Barack Obama, The Kingdom by Jo Nesbo and The Moth and the Mountain by Ed Caesar.

Clearly overcome by the good news, Walsh shared his delight at the achievement on Twitter, writing:

“Ohh look here — The Nine Lives of Pakistan makes the @nytimes list of 16 books to watch for in November, along with @edcaesar and Jo Nesbo and some Obama person. So that’s cool.”

A longtime international correspondent for the New York Times, the book is based on Walsh’ time in Pakistan where he lived for almost 10 years. Sketching out a portrait of a country torn apart by war, the book tells the story of nine unique individuals including Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
