Winter will finally arrive this week as temperatures drop to freezing point

Rory Cashin

Wrap up warm this week, folks! It’ll be a cold one out there…

While most of the country has experienced some of the heavy wind and rain that Storm Aiden brought with it over the weekend, the proper cold winter weather has not yet arrived.

Due to the collision of warm and cool winds from the storm, most of the days and nights lately have been relatively mild in terms of temperature, but as Aiden passes us by, that temperature is about to take a sudden dive.

Today’s average temperature of 11 degrees will drop to an average of 4 degrees tonight, with the risk of thunderstorms and hail in the west of the country.

As per the forecast by Met Eireann, from Tuesday onwards the average temperature is expected to be 7 to 9 degrees, while the mostly cloudless nights will allow temperatures to regular drop to freezing point, with anticipated lows of 0 degrees each and every night of the week from Tuesday night onwards.

Mist, fog, and frost is also expected, especially in the midlands and towards the north of the island.

So basically November has arrived and let us know immediately that winter has arrived. Stay warm!
