More than a quarter of Irish adults are struggling financially, according to figures from Aviva’s Family Finances Report.
RTE reports that the survey found that one million adults in Ireland were struggling to make ends meets.
More than two thirds of those saw no hope of an improvement in their personal circumstances.
The problem was worst among people aged 35-54, who are most likely to have higher debts and childcare and education costs.
Those under 34 or over 65 lived more comfortably and were more optimistic about their financial future.
When asked to describe their current financial circumstances, 28% or the equivalent of one million adults, said they are struggling.
