Gardai Issue Warning As Crashes Increase And Lorries Are Stranded On Roads

kaylawalsh

Gardai have issued a warning to drivers to exercise “extreme caution” today after an increase in collisions on roads across the country.

Superintendent for Roads Policing Finbarr Murphy told The Journal: “Leave huge distances between yourselves and the car in front.

“Don’t take photos of scenery as you’re driving, as we saw on the motorway this morning. You need essentially 100% concentration as you’re driving in this weather.”

He advised drivers to clear all snow off roofs, windscreens, lights and mirrors – unlike this car stopped by Gardai earlier today.

Drivers should also be aware of stranded and jackknifed trucks on the roads.

The government has advised the Irish public to avoid unnecessary journeys, especially between 4pm tomorrow and midday on Friday.
