How on earth did they ever realise it was fake?
An Garda Síochána keep the public up to date with their latest comings and goings on Twitter, often sharing when they’ve caught cars speeding, without a license or insurance, or driving without L or N plates.
However, this week they shared with us a motorist who had found a way around paying their motor tax; by making a homemade tax disc.
How did they figure out it wasn’t real, you might ask? The official Twitter page uploaded a photo of the “tax disc” and, as the tweet says, “the rest explains itself“.
Gardaí from Meath were on patrol over the weekend when they spotted something peculiar about the tax disc on a parked car.

Written in what looks like pencil is a makeshift tax disc, priced at €710 (what on earth kind of car is it??) which looks like it’s shoved in on top of previous, and likely real expired tax discs.
Perhaps the funniest part of this is that the expiry date on the disc is 09-23, which given that the Gardaí came across the parked car over the weekend means even the fake disc is expired. Maybe they didn’t have a pencil sharpener to hand to make a new one, maybe their scissors were blunt – we might never know for certain.
As in most cases like this, the car was seized with prosecution to follow.
