These are the five best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Your Thursday night viewing menu.

Another cold night ahead for us tonight, and we’re just one night away from the weekend.

Tonight’s mix includes Cillian Murphy, Arnie, Kurt Russell, and a load of big dangerous killer monkeys. So… y’know… it is definitely varied, for sure.

Also, three of tonight’s five movies involve females being kidnapped, which is an odd coincidence.

Congo – FilmFour – 6.50pm

From the same author as Jurassic Park, this action-adventure tells the story of a group of scientists attempting to find a secret city in the middle of the Congo, only to discover it is protected by a species of very intelligent and dangerous primates.

Red Eye – TCM – 9pm

Rachel McAdams finds herself secretly taken hostage on board an overnight flight by Cillian Murphy, who demands she help him kill someone, or the people he works for will kill her father.

Commando – FilmFour – 9pm

Arnie is the retired soldier living a peaceful life with his daughter, but a former colleague kidnaps her and uses her as leverage to force Arnie into assassinating someone. Instead, Arnie decides to turn his killing skills against everyone who worked with the kidnapper. By the end of the movie, Arnie has killed EIGHTY ONE people.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters – Comedy Central – 9pm

Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner are the grown-up, kick-ass witch hunters of the famous children’s tale, hired by local villagers to rid them of their witch problems. But they soon run into a particular witch that has ties to their own terrible childhood.

Bone Tomahawk – FilmFour – 11.50pm

Tonight’s best movie. Kurt Russell, Matthew Fox, Patrick Wilson and others are old west cowboys heading out into the wilds to save a woman from their time, believing she was taken by a nearby group of Native Americans. What is waiting for them is much, much worse…
