Including one movie guaranteed to make you cry, and two of the best scary movies of the last five years.
Lots to choose from on your Friday night, which is for the best really, considering the weather…
Eddie The Eagle – FilmFour – 6.50pm
Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton star in this charming true story about an incredibly under-skilled young man who makes it his life’s dream to compete in the Winter Olympics.
The Heat – E4 – 9pm
Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy star as two cops who hate each other but are forced to work together in order to crack a major case. A very easy and likeable comedy.
Independence Day: Resurgence – FilmFour – 9pm
The much-delayed sequel brings back some of the original cast, and throws in a handful of hot young talent, and mushes them all together in a hugely expensive alien war movie. Enjoy the special effects, and turn your brain off for the “plot” bits.
The Crying Game – RTE Two – 9.40pm
Neil Jordan (Michael Collins) directed this Oscar-winning crime drama dealing with an English soldier who is kidnapped by the IRA, and a relationship that begins between him and one of his captors.
Ghost – Virgin Media One – 10pm
Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore star in this absolutely-will-make-you-cry-your-eyes-out romantic drama about a man who is killed, but isn’t ready to let his girlfriend go, so he uses a medium (Whoopi Goldberg) to stay in contact with her.
Scary Movie 3 – Comedy Central Extra – 11pm
The one with Pamela Anderson and Charlie Sheen, dealing with crop circles (Signs), weird video tapes (The Ring), and an alien invasion (we’re not sure which horror movie that is supposed to be making fun of).
Train To Busan – FilmFour – 11.20pm
This Korean horror movie finds passengers on a train attempting to escape a zombie outbreak, but it isn’t long before the people on board become more monstrous than what is waiting for them on the platforms.
The Witch – Channel 4 – 12.15am
Another great recent horror movie, set on Olde Worlde England, with a family trying to survive in the woods, but convinced a nearby witch has cursed them and is trying to turn their daughter to her side of evil doing.
