Cork restaurant asks customers not to ‘hurl abuse’ following cancellations

Sarah Finnan

A very challenging time as it is, the team at the Michelin Guide Blairscove House & Restaurant in Cork have had to face the added stress of dealing with unhappy customers. Pleading with the public to refrain from berating staff, owners have taken to Twitter to ask for people’s cooperation.

Making the tough decision to cancel all upcoming bookings and close their doors for the remainder of the 2020 season, staff at Blairscove House are busy getting in touch with customers to inform them of the sad news. Not a happy day for anyone involved, it appears that the team at the Cork restaurant has faced some backlash from customers – prompting owner Chris Woodward to ask locals for their support during this time.

“If you receive a call from us today to unfortunately cancel your reservation….please don’t scream at us and hurl abuse. We understand you have lost a night out…but we are having to cancel a months worth of cancellations. Believe me we are more upset than you are.”

Adding that “95% of people are understanding and great”, Chris said that unfortunately his wife Ann has had “far too much abuse shouted at her today”. Saddened to hear of the team’s negative experience, friends have offered up words of support to help them through.
