‘We’re moving as fast as is it is possible to move’ – Stephen Donnelly on the rollout of the vaccine

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has denied claims that vaccine rollout in the country is ‘slow’.

Speaking on Newstalk Breakfast this morning, Minister for Health Simon Donnelly weighed in on a number of different topics including government decision to postpone the reopening of schools and the rollout of vaccines across Ireland.

Commenting that “people are deeply concerned at the speed of the rollout of the vaccine”, Ciara Kelly asked Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly his thoughts on the matter.

Starting off by saying that “the only constraint on vaccinations will be the arrival of the vaccines here in Ireland”, Minister Donnelly did his best to reassure the public that officials are “moving as fast as it is possible to move”.

“We’re not slow. Ireland, for example, has preordered about 15million or more doses of vaccine. It’s not a question of not having preordered enough, it’s a question of how quickly the manufacturers can make it.”

His comments come after the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine for use in the EU, with Ireland expected to receive an initial shipment of 88,000 doses.
