Updating the public on what to expect in the coming days, Met Éireann forecasters have warned that there are “sharp to severe frosts” still to come.
Another year is upon us but the current cold snap is set to continue if Met Éireann is to be believed with forecasters advising that “now is the time to double check that all winter weather preparations are being made”.
Predicting that there are “sharp to severe frosts” still expected over the coming days, tonight’s forecast will bring widespread frost and ice with isolated showers in the west and north. According to the Met Éireann website:
“Later in the night, a more organised band of wintry showers will move in to affect the north and northwest, spreading southwards over the country towards dawn on Saturday. A dusting of snow is possible in places by Saturday morning. Minimum temperatures ranging -3 to 0 degrees in light northwest winds with some fog patches.”

The weekend will start off cold and icy with a mix of sunny spells and wintry showers expected for the afternoon. Saturday evening will be mostly dry with frost and ice “returning quickly after dark” and temperatures set to plummet to -5 degrees celsius in places.
Frost and icy patches will be “slow to clear” on Sunday morning though sunny conditions are predicted for the rest of the day with a few showers possible along the eastern coasts.
Forecasters expect that the weather will remain very cold for the rest of the week, also warning against “further wintry showers or longer spells of sleet or snow” at times.
