Singer, actor, dancer and just an all-round sounder.. is there anything the man can’t do?!

2020 has been one hell of a year for Kildare local Paul Mescal who shot to fame following his standout performance in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People.  Quickly becoming one of the world’s favourite leading men, he’s handled his overnight success like a pro – continuing to surprise fans with his long list of talents.

A man that clearly doesn’t like to be idle for too long, his latest project sees the actor star in a new short film inspired by the events of the past year. Supporting a cause very close to his own heart, the video comes as part of a new Samsung Spotlight collaboration endeavouring to support young performing artists in the wake of the pandemic.

Tasked with creating something to convey the tumultuous emotions of the past year, the actor can be seen performing a 90-second contemporary dance piece he put together with Strictly Come Dancing choreographer Richard Marcel especially for the project.

Commenting on the video, Paul said:

“This project took me totally out of my comfort zone as I am not a dancer. Movement is something I loved doing at drama school and something that I’ve missed doing since entering the industry. There are thousands of performers in the arts industry that have been affected by the closures of theatres, venues and stages who have and are going through an incredibly challenging time.”

Not the only impressive member of the Mescal family, talent obviously runs deep down in Kildare where Paul’s younger sister Nell has been wowing fans with her stellar vocals all year… not many can say Jennifer Garner is a fan of their work.
