Our saving grace after a night out on the sauce, the cause of many an argument over ‘butter or mayo’ and ‘plain or spicy’, the chicken fillet roll has basically become the dish of the nation.
Irish people are proud of the humble roll. And that means we have a lot of opinions on what makes a good one. A recent thread on Reddit Ireland was posted by someone from Northern Ireland, who said that he had abandoned his soda farl and adopted our chicken fillet roll instead.
Naturally, Irish people chimed in and they had a lotta things to say about it.
Here’s the chicken fillet roll in question… First thought? That’s a LOT of chicken.
People were concerned that the roll was too dry
“You’ve gone too far. That’s a very dry roll.”
“No mayonnaise or cheese or anything. Some fill of chicken though.”
“I was thinking that alright, that thing looks like the Sahara desert… Nay a bit of butter or mayo in sight! you would cut your gums on that thing!!”
And… it’s served in a container?!
“Look at your man with the container.”
“Notions.”
“Give me tin foil or give me death.”
“Deli paper master race.”
What about some sauce? Where’s the sauce?
“You need to get yourself some sweet chilli or taco sauce on that bad boy.”
“It needs taco sauce badly! Along with some cheese if your up for it, also don’t skimp on the butter!”
And some people even took issue with the chicken itself. Sure wouldn’t we complain about anything?
“I don’t like the diced chicken. It increases the risk of bits falling out.”
“Damn right. Everyone knows strips are the key to a decent and structurally sound chicken fillet roll.”
